Marketing your mobile shredding business: Streaming video on your homepage.
If you've ever wondered how to market a business based on an AXO mobile shredding truck, there's any number of things you can do. Here, we bring you an update on the story of Lou Truyens and his New Zealand-based business, Mobile Onsite Shredding. You may remember that we introduced you to Lou in our August edition of AXO News. His business was going from strength to strength thanks to his willingness to get out there and knock on doors to generate new work. This marketing strategy has worked well for Lou, but recently, he discovered that he could grab the attention of even more potential clients with a simple video streaming live on his website's homepage.
"Recently, I added a streaming video to my homepage which simply shows the process involved in retrieving a bin and shredding it onsite at the customer's premises. The results have been surprisingly successful. Because clients can see what we do in the space of a minute or two, we don't have to do nearly so much explaining about the benefits of shredding onsite," says Lou.
Since Lou put this short video on his homepage, he's seen a substantial increase in calls from people with a home office or small business who can see that they don't have to have a lot to shred to make it worthwhile.
Another, perhaps surprising, benefit for Lou is that he's now getting calls from major corporate clients, educators and government looking for bulk shredding straight from the archive box.
"These businesses are looking at the video and can see that we will shred a whole archive box in one hit, as well as books and other bulkier documents. If they want this from the major document destruction houses, they'd have to empty their archive boxes into the bins themselves. They are really pleased to see we can save them all that time and energy," Lou explains.

Who knows? This simple approach could make the world of difference to your mobile shredding business.
Shredlock is obsessed with the safety of your disposed documents Disposing of documents and data in a way that's safe and secure is something of an obsession for Australian businessman, Tim Horton. Tim's Sydney-based company, Shredlock Limited, is taking on the big multinationals and shaking up the document destruction industry.
Not merely happy to be "just another shredding and recycling business", Tim has established a document destruction service based around an AXO mobile shredding unit. This approach eliminates the risk of confidential and sensitive information falling into the wrong hands, by destroying this information where it is produced - onsite.
Shredlock hit the streets of Sydney, Wollongong and Canberra late last year and the company has seen impressive growth right from the very beginning. Onsite shredding may seem like an odd business choice for Tim, who has marketed wine for the past 12 years, but for him, it made total sense.
"It was my business partner's idea. He's been working in the finance sector for long enough to understand the importance of security in document destruction. We started researching this idea several years ago and headed to a major international conference on document destruction and storage in Europe to make sure we did everything right," explains Tim.
"Whilst researching the different shredding equipment suppliers, we discovered AXO, and kept coming back to them. Their technology is superior and their support for our business concepts was important. After the conference, we headed to the UK with some of the AXO team, who took us around several other businesses using their trucks. We could really see the potential for the Sydney market," Tim continues.
Once they had settled on AXO to supply their mobile shredding unit, the business really started to take shape. Shredlock aren't alone in their market - there are three other shredding trucks operating in Sydney, plus the usual array of factory-based shredding services - but their early success has shown that they're building a sound business.
Tim believes that their old-fashioned approach to customer service will help Shredlock stand out from the crowd. "We operate in an industry that's notorious for poor customer service. Our integrity and customer focus will make all the difference for our customers."
