Biomass

Shredding any type of biomass requires a focus on high throughput, low cost, and low maintenance. A biomass shredding system is required for most biomass power plants to reduce the organic feedstock to a size suitable for the boiler. Biomass power plants are expanding throughout South-East-Asia because of recent advancements in clean green converting technologies.

AXO Shredders have suitable specific machines for feedstock from both agricultural cropping and forestry industries. AXO s Fatso shredders enable customisation to optimise efficiency for different types of biomass to ensure that the customers operation can be as trouble free, profitable and efficient as possible.

AXO supplies European components and technology, but is able to support our SEA customers through our manufacturing, install and service staff based in Thailand. AXO have experience in shredding palm waste, EFB (empty fruit bunch), coconut, corn husk, cane sugar, hemp, napier grass, forestry trim, and many others. Size reduction shredders are a key part of the biomass recovery process deriving renewable energy from waste.

Biomass Shredders

Each type of biomass has different characteristics, likewise different output sizes and throughput are specified by the manufacturers of the combustion process. There is no "one size fits all" shredder.

Some plants may be suited to a single large shredder processing 100% of the biomass. Other plants may suit multiple shredders feeding a common output line. Multiple smaller shredders has the benefit of spreading breakdown risk and also makes maintenance easier.

Wear of the shredder cutters is directly proportional to tons of biomass being shredded and contaminant within the biomass. AXO's Hard-Head system will retain sharp edges up to 4 x longer than standard cutters. Hard-Heads are easy to replace individually and are relatively inexpensive.

Customers Shredding biomass can refer to AXO's standard electric shredders chart. Normally shredders with a cutter width above 20mm are recommended because these cutter-shafts can include the Hard-Head system. AXO recommends customers always consult with AXO for these type of projects.

Hard-Heads

The Hard-Head system was developed by AXO to lower the cost of ownership of our shredders. The Hard-Heads shown above in blue are attached to each cutter, fixed from the rear with a capscrew. Because of this they can only be fitted to cutter widths above 20mm.

The Hard-Heads can be removed and rotated after the leading edge has worn. They can be replaced while the cutter shafts are still in the shredder block. The Hard-Head material and treatment process is specifically developed for AXO to increase cutter life and reduce overall wear cost to the customer.

Hard-Heads stay sharper and have a convex face with sharp points, so they keep the shredder grabbing and pulling in more material for a longer time. It's ideal for hard to grab applications like plastics, drums, paper roll cores etc. Shredders with Hard-Heads are also ideally suited to higher wear applications such as paper pre-shredding, biomass, and multi-stream waste.
