Paper Shredding Companies Select Affordable, Durable Kenworth T300 for Mobile Units

Fast-growing shredding services company Absolute Shreds had never used a Kenworth truck in its business. But when the Kenworth T300 was incorporated by AXO Shredders, which specializes in manufacturing customized mobile shredding systems, Absolute Shreds jumped at the offer.

Two-year-old Blue-Pencil Mobile Shredding & Recycling of Mississauga, Ont., recently bought an AXO unit, which has more than double the shredding capacity of its other truck. "The AXO shredder offers the fastest technology in the industry and the Kenworth T300 is a powerful, durable truck, which should last at least 15 years," said Blue-Pencil president Mario Skopek.

Companies such as Absolute Shreds and Blue-Pencil provide on-site shredding services to businesses, including medical, law and financial offices. "Any business that takes personal information and keeps records has need for our services," Brechtelsbauer said. "It's more cost effective for them to use a shredding service because of the equipment and personnel costs."

Skopek said the Toronto market is among North America's most competitive with over 10 firms offering on-site shredding. "The industry will continue to grow as more companies realize the benefits of hiring a shredding service," said Skopek, whose firm has over 600 clients.

AXO gives customers a leg up on the competition by utilizing the Kenworth T300 chassis combined with a vehicle package featuring a box which houses a high-volume shredder. The shredder can chew through at least 5,000 pounds of paper per hour and the vehicle has a paper payload of 10,000 pounds.

"We wanted the best cab and chassis in the industry to package with our state-of-the-art mobile shredding concept and we have it with the Kenworth T300," said Pete Viveen, AXO Technical Director. "It offers a durable vehicle that's affordable, reliable and able to maneuver into any space at our customers' locations. Our body and the T300 are integrated into a mobile shredding system that delivers greater profits through increased shredding capacity, payload, vehicle size and reliability."

6 reasons why the shredding industry is so good:

1. Wide range of potential customers - almost every business or government organization is a potential customer

2. Recurring Revenues - once the customer is "on board" they'll use your service with high regularity without having to be "re-sold" the service each time.

3. Very few bad debts - the nature of this service and of the customers who use it mean that bad debts are rare

4. Ability to expand - growing the business is simply a matter of adding more customers to be serviced using existing equipment and staff.

5. Easy exit - some businesses are difficult to sell, as the service they provide may be inherently linked to the owners' skill or experience. Shredding companies are notoriously easy to sell, as customers don't flee simply because the ownership of the shredding company has changed.

6. Easy to operate - staff don't have to have specific skill or undergo lengthy training... so you get to take an occasional break!

AXO Shaft Strength

The key design premise behind AXO Shredding machines to eliminate the faults that were inherent with traditional designs of twin shafted shredding machines. Business interruption caused by machines breakdowns, wages per unit shredded to be unacceptably high and greater than desired management supervision of maintenance schedules were the types of issues faced by confidential destruction companies.

These problems were caused by the document shredding machines - shafts breaking, regular maintenance requirement and relatively low throughput. We felt that if we could design a more reliable machine with a greater throughput, we would provide the very machine that shredding companies were searching for.

We're supplied hundreds of AXO Shredding Machines around the world, and they all feature our unique solid shaft design.
This design has proven even more effective than we had hoped and seems to have struck a chord with shredding companies too - in the last 6 months we sold more machines to existing customers than we did to new ones, and while new customer sales are growing strongly, our repeat business continues to grow even quicker.

We've had customers shred all types of steel items and suffer no downtime, allowing them to continue to service their customers and grow their business. Importantly, the AXO design eliminates the need for torque nuts, which on the traditional design of shredding machine tend to loosen, which can lead to shaft breakages.
The only regular maintenance that is required is the simple greasing of the machine at two easily accessible grease points.
