Cleardata captures the OnSite shredding market in South Africa.
For Gianmarco Lorenzi, owner of South Africa's successful OnSite shredding company, Cleardata, buying an AXO truck-mounted shredder was one of the best purchases he's ever made.
A former Auditor with accounting giant Deloitte, Gianmarco was working in Sydney when the idea for his business came to him. "I was standing at the photocopier one day looking at the locked shredding bins, when it occurred to me that this wasn't common practice back in South Africa. People usually just chucked it in the bin or the recycling box," says Gianmarco.
Gianmarco researched the possibility of establishing a shredding business back in Cape Town. After deciding that the overheads involved in offsite shredding were too high, he discovered mobile shredding and ordered an OnSite shredding truck kit from AXO. "AXO were extremely helpful. They put the equipment together and shipped it over to me, then they sent one of their guys to install it into my new truck."
Cleardata's first mobile shredding truck was on the road in November 2006. In just eight months, the business has grown to the point that Cleardata is poised to dominate in the South African shredding market, with trucks in Johannesburg and Durban.
"Here in South Africa, we've been very relaxed about privacy and document destruction," Gianmarco explains. "But new legislation is being drafted that will completely change the way South African businesses deal with their documents and I'm pleased that Cleardata is ready to capture this new business when it comes in."
Mobile OnSite shredding makes dollars and sense for a small New Zealand business.
Just one mobile shredding truck from AXO makes for a successful small business. Just ask Lou Truyens of Mobile OnSite Shredding in Wellington, New Zealand. Three years ago, Lou was between jobs and looking to establish a small business of his own.
Lou stumbled upon on-site shredding almost by accident, but the mobile shredding concept made sense to him and he set out to find the money to invest in an OnSite shredding truck. Wellington is serviced by the usual offsite document destruction companies, but with no-one offering the security of OnSite shredding, Lou felt that there was a sizable gap in the market.
He was right, and after his fully set-up truck from AXO arrived, he started knocking on doors to drum up business. "I had zero clients when I started, but now I have almost 200 with at least 400 bins dotted around the city - and I service that all from just one truck, with one driver" explains Lou.
Stringent privacy laws and greater corporate responsibility mean that more and more organisations need to look seriously at the way they are managing their data. For many organisations, it's simply not safe enough to trust that their documents will be destroyed offsite in a timely and secure manner.
Lou sees this as a terrific business opportunity. "My clients come from all ends of the business spectrum, from multinational corporations, government agencies and utility suppliers, to small businesses like accountants and lawyers. They all like the fact that they can come down to the truck with their documents and actually watch it being destroyed in front of them."
